I love earning interest on the money in my bank account. Can you relate? I’m guessing the answer is a resounding YES!
Have you ever considered the interest you earn through investing in yourself?
Likely, you haven’t thought about self-care in this way before. But what if I told you that every investment you make in yourself returns large dividends?
If you happen to hold the belief that it’s selfish to focus on self-care, you likely struggle with creating space to care for your own needs. Maybe you believe that by caring for others, you’re caring for yourself.
While supporting those you love is a wonderful quality, it can also lead to resentment, burnout, and exhaustion over time. It’s imperative you also make time to honor your own physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs.
One crucial aspect of self-care to address is physical and emotional healing. Any pain felt in your body or mind signals that something needs attention. For some individuals, the idea of engaging in emotional healing work can evoke significant fear. “Why fix something that’s already working?”
My response typically involves explaining that although you may be “getting by,” there is much to gain from investing in yourself. Most of us find ways to survive, even when our hearts ache from past events, but wouldn’t it be better to thrive?
Another common reason that many individuals choose not to work on their healing is their finances. While spending money can often feel uncomfortable, not focusing on your needs can cause more emotional discomfort and greater financial investment in the long run.
There are always great reasons to invest in yourself that provide so many dividends in the long run. In this blog, I share a few of them with you.
- Better Relationships
When you focus on your needs, including your growth and healing, all relationships in your life improve. In other words, the healthier you are, the healthier your relationships. Everything suffers when you don’t take the time to nurture the relationship with yourself. - Greater Joy
Investing in yourself leads to less resentment because you’re prioritizing your needs versus neglecting them. This then ripples out to those you come in contact with during your daily life. Instead of feeling like you’re drowning, you’ll feel empowered, fulfilled, and joyful. - Amplifying Your Light
Most of us desire to be a bright light in the lives of those we love. However, you must first focus on your own light, what keeps it dim, and what increases its intensity. Your capacity to shine, especially to those having difficulty finding their own, is directly proportional to the time and energy you spend caring for your precious heart. - Discovering Your Gifts
Carrying around unhealed parts of yourself keeps your innate gifts blocked from discovery. Through healing your heart, you develop the ability to recognize the wisdom, talent, and gifts you were meant to share with the world.
While these are just a few of the benefits of investing in yourself, there are hundreds of ways that self-care will positively impact your life. I invite you to reflect on how self-care has benefited your life in the past.
Remember, the relationship you have with yourself is the longest relationship you will ever experience in life. With this in mind, isn’t it time to invest in and nurture the magnificent soul that you embody?
