Manifesting the life you really want is about setting powerful intentions and following through on the aligned actions that naturally spring forth from that intention.
An intention is more than a wish or a want. An intention is a promise of following through until the dream becomes reality, and this is only possible when we take physical steps to make it happen.
An intention is about doing what it takes until it takes and not letting anything stop you.
When we set intentions, it’s easy to get attached to how much we want this specific goal to come true. We long for it, yearn for it…but even this is just a story of the mind and the emotions join in happily. We want to feel alive and we want to feel like we have the things in our lives that we need to make us happy.
But really what we truly need is very limited. If everything is stripped away from us, revealing the naked truth, there is nothing outside of ourselves that can make us happy. No accomplishment, no person, nothing, no amount of money, no dream…
You are already all that you need and want. Realizing this takes the pressure off having to become something else in order to be happy. This doesn’t mean that we can’t continue to dream and follow through on those dreams; it simply means that we are the source of the dream, the dreamer, and therefore already all encompassing.
When we get too attached to a specific intention or how it’s going to come about, then we get stuck, and our ability to change with the ever-evolving flow of life is crippled.
The other day I was in my barn tending to my horses, and I heard a chirping sound above me. Looking up through the wooden beams in the barn, I noticed a beautiful deep red bird chirping and pecking with his beak against a tiny window.
From time to time he would fly around in a circle, frantically trying to get out and, unfortunately, crash into the glass again and again. When this didn’t work, he returned to chirping and pecking at the window.
What he failed to notice was the gigantic barn door opening just beneath him. Instead, he insisted on continuing his pointless quest to get out the tiny window above.
I felt sad and hopeless for him, but his perspective was stuck within the narrow parameters of his intention.
As nightfall came, I left all the doors open and turned on the light outside in hopes of him realizing there were other openings. Luckily, he did and flew back into freedom.
But I am certain that had circumstances not changed from light to dark, he would have continued to peck away at that little window, never realizing the many available pathways to the world outside. Perhaps this would have led to his eventual demise.
The same exact thing happens to people. We get stuck on having things a certain way, seeing things a certain way, and then we fail to see all the millions of other opportunities that are available to us at a blink of an eye, if we are only willing to look around and change our perspective.
Once we are stuck, it can take years for us to change. Like the bird, we keep pecking away at the same hopeless little avenue and only when the entire universe changes for us, are we able to wake up and look at things from a different view.
This is definitely what happened to me when my father died. Although I had a life I loved, I was stuck on certain ideas that kept me going around in circles, unable to break free of certain patterns because I couldn’t see them.
When my day turned from light to dark, I could suddenly see all the other avenues. I realized I had a blank slate and I could create anything I wanted, be anyone I wanted…the options were endless.
Sometimes the universe has to stand on its head for us to see that there are be other possibilities. But when that happens, you are returned to yourself, the only real you, the you who knows that there never was nor ever will be anything outside of yourself.
You return to unlimited, uninhibited flow. The way it was always meant to be. Nothing and no one can define you. You are free as a bird.
Surrendering to detachment is the key to staying in the flow. Detaching from the outcome of your intentions, dreams, goals, and wishes helps you realize that even if they don’t come true exactly as you had imagined, there are always other options, other pathways.
Even if they never come to pass it never mattered anyway, because the entire universe was always within you and only you and you will be ok, because hey, you’re limitless!
